The Vale Heritage Centre Coalition formed on 19 Feb 2010, with the aim of establishing a heritage centre in the Vale of Glamorgan. This page lists our progress to date on this historic project.

Chronology of progress
May 2011
1: The VHCC has been in liaison with the Consultants commisioned by Vale of Glamorgan Council to carry out the Options Appraisal, and meetings with supporting groups and individuals are expected to take place shortly.
2: The VHCC Commitee have submitted a proposal to the Barry Regeneration Board for the establishment of a small scale 'proof of concept' Heritage Centre, as the first step towards creating 'Barry: Wales's first Heritage Town'. The concept involves heritage 'hubs' around Barry and the Vale linked by heritage transport 'spokes'.
25 April 2011
As of April 2011 the Vale of Glamorgan Council tasked pecialist Consultants to carry out an Options Appraisal to determine options for the establishment of a Heritage Centre in Barry, built with the aid of Welsh Assembly Government town regeneration funding. We are currently awaiting being contacted by the Consultants.

A new Commitee was established at the Coalition's first AGM, and a provisional date for next year`s AGM set.
Jan 2011:
Coalition Founder Dr Jonathon Hicks resigned as Chair due to other commitements. Ade Pitman took on the role of acting Chair.
Mar 23 2010:
Coalition presents case for a Heritage Centre to the Vale of Glamorgan Council. The Council agrees to investigate funding of a feasibility study
Apr 14 2010:
The Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet met to discuss the recent recommendation from the Scrutiny Committee (Economic and Environment).
The Scrutiny Committee had recommended:-
(1) That Cabinet be requested to look into the funding of a feasibility study to investigate the options and related costs of setting up a Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Museum and to include support for satellite collections in other towns and villages within the Vale of Glamorgan.
(2) T hat the public be thanked for their attendance and the speakers congratulated on their comprehensive representations and for their contributions to the discussions.
Cabinet, having considered the recommendations of Scrutiny Committee, together with the representations made by local historians, resolved that Recommendation (1) be accepted and a report be submitted to Cabinet based on the request of Scrutiny Committee (Economy and Environment) as contained in (1) above.
